RNC treasurer announces bid to replace Lara Trump as co-chair

Republican National Committee Treasurer KC Crosbie told her colleagues Sunday night that she is running for RNC co-chair to replace Lara Trump, who said Sunday night that she is resigning from the post.

“This position requires leadership, communication and the ability to unite our diverse members while supporting President Trump and his administration’s bold initiative to “Make America Great Again,” wrote Crosbie, who is also the RNC national committeewoman from Kentucky is, in an email to RNC members obtained by NBC News. “I am committed to fulfilling the duties of RNC co-chair with the same dedication that I brought to the role of treasurer.”

The role of RNC co-chairman drew widespread attention in the 2024 election after President-elect Donald Trump helped place his daughter-in-law in the post as part of his takeover of the party’s infrastructure. Trump-backed RNC Chairman Michael Whatley has already agreed to remain in the post.

“At the RNC, we had three clear goals: 1) to exceed all fundraising records, 2) to build the largest army of lawyers and poll watchers to ensure election integrity, and 3) to allow millions of Americans and low-propensity voters to vote early move. We have achieved all three,” Lara Trump wrote in a post on X on Sunday evening, announcing that she was leaving the post.

Crosbie’s email to RNC members came hours later. She highlighted the RNC’s fundraising numbers during her tenure as treasurer as well as its internal financial controls.

“By implementing best practices and strengthening internal controls, the RNC has received clean audits from our external auditors while further strengthening the trust of both grassroots supporters and major donors,” she wrote.

It is unlikely that anyone would be able to garner enough support to replace Lara Trump without the explicit approval of Donald Trump or his team.

Neither Crosbie nor the Trump campaign responded to requests for comment.

An RNC member told NBC News that Crosbie was “very popular” with committee members.

Crosbie was elected as Kentucky’s RNC committeewoman in 2012 and was named the organization’s treasurer in June 2023. At the time, he said she would be “steward and watchdog of funds raised in support of the RNC.”

Lara Trump is stepping down as she has also actively lobbied Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to appoint her to the Senate seat being vacated by Marco Rubio, Donald Trump’s pick for secretary of state.

“Certainly we have all had the opportunity over the last nine years to fully engage in politics, to understand the American people and what they want, and we have all been residents of the state of Florida for over three years now. ” she told Fox News on Sunday. “If this was presented to me, it would be a real honor.”

Four sources familiar with the process said Monday that Trump’s resignation would have no impact on the Senate’s potential election and that DeSantis likely would not make a decision until early January. He’s also considering candidates from among Florida’s elected Republican ranks, including Attorney General Ashley Moody, Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Núñez, former House Speakers Paul Renner and José Oliva and Secretary of State Cord Byrd, as well as DeSantis’ chief of staff James Uthmeier.

Most of the Trump family and many key supporters have publicly stated that they support Lara Trump’s nomination. She is still being considered, but is not currently considered a top candidate.
