Roads to and around the CFP semifinals in and around the Cotton Bowl are clear following the winter storm in North Texas

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The roads leading to and around the site of the College Football Playoff semifinals in the Cotton Bowl were clear and mostly dry ahead of Friday night’s game between Texas and Ohio State.

Ahead of the game, there were concerns about possible transportation issues around AT&T Stadium after a winter storm with a mix of sleet and snow moved through the area on Thursday.

The game is played in the stadium with the retractable roof closed, as is common practice at Cotton Bowl games and most Dallas Cowboys games of the NFL.

While up to 7 inches of snow fell in some parts of North Texas on Thursday and into early Friday, the Arlington area only recorded about 5 inches of snow.

By early Friday afternoon, with temperatures still around 30 degrees but above freezing, there was little remnant of snow and ice on the grass areas surrounding the stadium. The sun broke through the clouds about three hours before the scheduled kickoff.

Although there were no issues getting to the stadium by vehicle, some fans attempting to travel to the game by plane are expected to be affected by flight delays and cancellations at Dallas-Fort Worth International and Dallas’ Love Field. There were still delays and cancellations throughout the day Friday, even after the storm moved out of the North Texas area.

Texas and Ohio State were able to hold their scheduled final practices at AT&T Stadium on Thursday, despite the wintry mix outside.
