Robert Griffin III is being roasted for the NFL-Netflix Christmas outfit

Overall, Netflix’s NFL Christmas coverage was a success leading up to the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader. The broadcast went smoothly, the Chiefs won, and everyone was happy—unless they were rooting for the Steelers.

But when studio crew Kay Adams, Robert Griffin III, Manti Te’o and Mina Kimes got back to business in front of the Ravens-Texans, NFL fans finally found something to complain about: RG3’s outfit.

As Griffin stood up to do a full-screen breakdown, it was hard not to notice his shiny shoes, colorful socks, and the strange red fabric hanging on each of his pant legs. It was almost too distracting to even pay attention to what he was trying to show us.

When the new Superman trailer came out, I immediately thought of Superman-themed socks and the red scarf cape attached to the top of the socks. That guess wasn’t too far off. Griffin actually explained at the beginning of the show that the socks featured faces of his wife and daughters and that the red scarf was a cape intended as a tribute to them as his heroes.

Regardless, many people who only watched the second game overlooked this statement and flocked to social media to voice their displeasure.

I guess we were all thinking the same thing.
