Rock star, former teen idol, dies at 73

Wayne Osmond, the second oldest in the Osmond Brothers band, has died.

He was 73.

His daughter Amy Cook shared the news on Facebook.

“Wayne Osmond, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully last night surrounded by his loving wife and five children,” Cook wrote. “His legacy of faith, music, love and laughter has influenced the lives of many people around the world. He wants everyone to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families last forever, and that banana splits are the best dessert. We love him and will miss him very much.”

Cook wrote that she “found it difficult to express the depth of my sadness at not having my ‘twin’ in my life for a while.”

“But I’m so grateful for the time I got to spend with him,” she continued. “I am grateful for the incredible memories. I am grateful for his strength, his loyalty to our family, his incredible talent and energy, and most of all, his love. I look forward to the day I can see him again on the other side.

“I love you, daddy.”

His younger brother Donny Osmond posted about his death on Instagram, saying that he “passed away peacefully last night from a stroke.”

“Wayne brought so much light, laughter and love to everyone who knew him, especially me,” he wrote. “He was the ultimate optimist and loved by everyone.”

The Los Angeles Times reported that Osmond also underwent surgery for a brain tumor in 1997 and suffered another stroke in 2012, “which left him unable to play guitar.”

Osmond was from Ogden, Utah.

He founded the Osmond Brothers with his brothers Alan, Merrill and Jay. They were considered teenage idols.
