A cause of death was not announced.

The Argentine-born actress rose to fame at the age of 15, starring in the controversial, two-time Academy Award-winning drama Romeo and Juliet alongside Leonard Whiting, who played Romeo.

Hussey won a Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer for the role, but was unhappy with the way the production handled the sensitive scenes in which Eisley and Whiting – who were 15 and 16 years old – were filmed naked.

According to a sexual abuse lawsuit obtained by CNN, the co-stars claimed that Zeffirelli told the then-teenagers that “they had to appear naked or the film would fail.”

More than 55 years after filming, the cast has re-filed a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures and home distribution company Criterion Collections over the distribution of the nude scene.

Hussey and Whiting suggested that the two film companies unlawfully distributed her nude images shown in a bedroom scene while simultaneously distributing the award-winning love story. The lawsuit was dismissed in October.

Hussey is known for portraying Juliet alongside Leonard Whiting as Romeo in the 1968 drama Romeo and Juliet.

Whiting wrote a tribute to his co-star, saying: “Rest now my beautiful Julia.”

“Olivia, we have shared so much since we were two sweet, innocent children clinging to each other for dear life, as every photo of us attests,” Whiting said in his tribute. “You were never afraid to fight to make right everything that was wrong in this world.

“Peace now, my beautiful Julia, no injustice can harm you now. And the world will forever remember your inner and outer beauty.”

The film launched her acting career and she appeared in dozens of projects, including 1978’s “Death on the Nile,” “The Cat and the Canary,” the television series “Murder, That She Wrote,” and as a voice actress for “Star Wars.” : The Old Republic” video game.

The award-winning actress starred in a number of horror films in the ’90s, including Psycho IV: The Beginning and a miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic novel It.

In 2008, the actress was diagnosed with breast cancer, which regressed after a mastectomy, but Hussey told Express that a new tumor appeared in 2018.

Hussey won a Golden Globe for her role in Romeo and Juliet.

Clint Howard, who co-starred with Hussey in the 1995 comedy Ice Cream Man, expressed his condolences in the Instagram post announcing her death.

“Olivia, you are such a wonderful light. You will shine forever! RIP,” Howard wrote.

Hussey is survived by her longtime husband, David Glen Eisley, her three children, Alex, Max and India, and her grandson, Greyson.

“As we mourn this immense loss, we also celebrate Olivia’s enduring impact on our lives and the industry,” Hussey’s statement concluded. “We thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and ask for privacy as we mourn the loss of a truly special soul.”
