Ruben Amorim made Manchester United fans smile again after a 4-0 win over Everton on Sunday.

The Old Trafford crowd serenaded United’s players with “Ole” towards the end of Amorim’s first Premier League game at Old Trafford.

It marks a big change from the boos that rang out around the stadium towards the end of former coach Erik ten Hag’s tenure.

In Amorim’s third game as manager in all competitions since taking over last month, United produced their best performance under him, with Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee scoring twice each.

“It’s a nice result. It’s important, with a new coach and a new way of playing, we’re still learning. We have to back up this performance,” said Rashford.

Amorim is unbeaten since taking over last month and United are in ninth place – four points off the top four.

Third-place Chelsea beat Aston Villa 3-0 and Tottenham drew 1-1 with Fulham a week after beating Manchester City 4-0.

At the destination

It didn’t take long for Amorim to get United’s forwards scoring.

Rashford has scored three goals in three games with the Portuguese, having previously scored four goals in 18 games.

Rasmus Hojlund scored twice in the Europa League win over Bodo Glimt and Zirkzee’s brace on Sunday were his first goals since the opening game of the season.

Goals were difficult to score under Ten Hag and United scored just eight goals in nine league games before his sacking.

Rashford started the defeat against Everton in the 34th minute and Zirkzee doubled United’s lead five minutes later. A minute into the second half, Rashford scored again and Zirkzee’s second goal came in the 64th minute after a quick counterattack.

Chelsea run

Chelsea moved level on points with second-placed Arsenal following their recent defeat against Aston Villa.

Goals from Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer ensured Chelsea kept pace with London rivals Arsenal.

For Villa it is eight games without a win in all competitions and their fifth defeat in this series.

Villa fell into the bottom half of the table in twelfth place.

Spurs slip

Tottenham were unable to follow up last week’s stunning win over City with another victory that would have taken them closer to the top four.

Brennan Johnson gave seventh-placed Spurs a second-half lead but substitute Tom Cairney leveled the game before being sent off late on.
