Former UConn Huskies running back Durell Robinson committed to the Auburn Tigers on Saturday. Robinson, who originally committed to Charlotte, played one season at UConn before entering the transfer portal earlier this month.

The 6-foot-2 speedster played his high school football at St. Frances Academy in Maryland, which has now become something of a recruiting pipeline for Auburn. 2025 Tigers signees Blake Woodby, Bryce Deas and Darrion Smith attended the school, and while Robinson was there, none made much of an impression, but they were on the same roster.

After playing sparingly in his redshirt freshman season with Charlotte, Robinson finished his first season with the Huskies with 731 yards and 8 touchdowns on just 107 carries. His 6.8 yards per carry led the team and was well ahead of starting running back Cam Edwards. The former three-star prospect received an offer from an SEC program, the Kentucky Wildcats, during his recruiting process.

Robinson has three years of eligibility left and joins Auburn’s backfield led by senior Damari Alston and freshman Alvin Henderson next season. While Alston is likely the candidate to get the bulk of the carries, and Henderson will certainly fight for playing time after his historically phenomenal high school career, Robinson could earn a variety role very similar to the one he has he had huskies with him.

At least Hugh Freeze and his staff now have a variety of options in the 2025 backfield. We’ll see how the Tigers ultimately decide to move forward after losing Jarquez Hunter.
