Saints’ Taysom Hill has to undergo a test after suffering a knee injury

NEW ORLEANS – Tight end Taysom Hill suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams, marking the third time he has left a game with an injury this season.

Hill appeared to have injured his left knee while running for the first time late in the 21-14 loss to the Rams. His knee bent backwards awkwardly as he fell to the ground, and he remained lying while athletic trainers tended to him.

Teammates and several Rams players knelt on the ground as coaches tested Hill’s leg before calling for a cart. Hill climbed onto the cart as the crowd chanted his name and waved to fans before being chased off the field.

“I love the way our fans treated him,” quarterback Derek Carr said of cheering for Hill. “I wouldn’t expect anything less from our fans.”

Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi said Hill will undergo testing and did not receive an update on the severity of the injury after the game.

“Taysom is out, a lot of guys are disappointed,” Rizzi said of the mood in the team after Hill’s injury. “He’s obviously a very respected and well-liked guy in our locker room.”

Starting guard Nick Saldiveri also left with a cart, and safety Tyrann Mathieu left with a shoulder injury. Rizzi said Saldiveri is also undergoing testing.

Hill led the team with five catches for 37 yards and carried the ball five times for 10 yards.

He left a Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys and was transported to a local hospital. He missed the next game and then returned to play one half against the Atlanta Falcons before leaving the game again. He missed the next three games before returning in Week 8.

Hill reportedly suffered a bruised lung and also played with broken ribs this season.
