The Cardinals lead 20-17 at halftime

Chad Ryland kicked a 49-yard field goal as time expired, giving the Cardinals a 3-point lead at halftime.

It capped a wild finish to the second quarter that saw both teams score touchdowns in the final two minutes.

The Cardinals drove 70 yards in eight plays, with tight end Trey McBride catching three passes for 43 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown toss from Kyler Murray for a 17-10 lead

Murray threw a fade pass to McBride in the right corner of the end zone and McBride fired the ball in with all his might for his second TD reception of the season. The score was 1:51 left in the first half.

McBride has six catches for 52 yards and is seven receptions away from surpassing Zach Ertz’s NFL record for most catches in a season by a tight end. Ertz had 116 with the Eagles in 2018.

The 49ers, in turn, matched the Cardinals by gaining 70 yards on 10 plays, with Josh Dobbs connecting with Ricky Pearsall on a 6-yard touchdown pass with 16 seconds left in the second quarter.

However, that was enough time for Kyler Murray and the Cardinals to get into field goal range. The big play was a 25-yard completion from Murray to Zay Jones and Ryland tied it with his second field goal of the game

Score: Cardinals 20, 49ers 17 (halftime)

The 49ers tied the game at 10 with Dobbs’ TD run

The 49ers gained 73 yards on eight plays, capped by a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Josh Dobbs into the end zone.

The decisive play was a 29-yard run by Patrick Taylor Jr.

The bigger news, however, was that each team lost a player to disqualification for personal fouls on the same play.

Before Dobbs’ TD run, 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings clashed with Cardinals cornerback Starling Thomas V. Both players were penalized with personal fouls, but on the very next play Cardinals cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting beat Jennings and then the two went one after the other.

Jennings pushed Murphy-Bunting to the ground and a flag was raised. So did a second flag when Murphy-Bunting retaliated. Both players were ejected.

Score: Cardinals 10, 49ers 10 (5:43 left in the second quarter).

Arizona takes a 10-3 lead on Dortch TD catch

The Cardinals turned an interception by 49ers quarterback Josh Dobbs into a touchdown by Sean Murphy-Bunting early in the second quarter.

After driving to the San Francisco 23, Kyler Murray threw an underpass to Greg Dortch on a cross route, and the speedy Dortch made a few nice cuts and turned the ball upfield to put it in the end zone.

It was his second touchdown reception of the season and first since Oct. 21 in a 17-15 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Score: Cardinals 10, 49ers 3 (12:55 left in second quarter)

The Cardinals respond with a long FG

The Cardinals executed a fake punt play on fourth-and-4 from their own 43-yard line that helped them score a field goal and tie the game.

It looked like Arizona would go three-and-out for the second straight game, but backup running back and kick returner DeeJay Dallas took the direct snap and ran 22 yards for the first down.

Three unsuccessful plays later, Chad Ryland hit a 51-yard field goal.

Early in the quarter, the Cardinals lost rookie cornerback Max Melton to a wrist injury. His return is questionable.

Ryland’s kick followed a missed 47-yard attempt by Jake Moody with 3:41 left in the first period.

Score: Cardinals 3, 49ers 3 (end of first quarter)

The 49ers strike first and lead 3-0

The 49ers scored on their first possession of the game, getting a 51-yard field goal from Jake Moody to take the early lead over the Cardinals.

Josh Dobbs connected with rookie Ricky Pearsall on a 30-yard pass play to provide most of the distance on the drive.

It was a costly affair for San Francisco, however, as running back Isaac Guerendo suffered a knee and ankle injury when he was tackled at the end of a short run by Kyzir White and Guerendo had to be carted off the field. He is listed as out.

Score: 49ers 3, Cardinals 0 (12:48 left in the first quarter)
