Saturday 9:30 p.m. Severe Weather Update

At 9:30 p.m., the line of severe storms will now cross the western border of the US state of Alabama and then reach the I-65 corridor around 12:00 p.m.

Damaging winds and a few tornadoes are possible along this route. We must monitor the radar carefully as the line traverses.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued one Tornado warning for Lamar County in west central Alabama until 10:00 p.m. CST. At 9:27 p.m. CST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Bedford or near Vernon, moving northeast at 70 mph. There is a risk of a brief tornado, so flying debris poses a danger to those without shelter.

The National Weather Service issued an advisory at 8:12 p.m Tornado watch until 4 a.m Sunday for the following areas in central Alabama: Autauga AL, Bibb AL, Blount AL, Chilton AL, Dallas AL, Fayette AL, Greene AL, Hale AL, Jefferson AL, Lamar AL, Lowndes AL, Marengo AL, Marion AL, Perry AL, Pickens AL, St. Clair AL, Shelby AL, Sumter AL, Talladega AL, Tuscaloosa AL, Walker AL, Winston AL.

These include the cities of Alabaster, Aliceville, Birmingham, Brent, Carrollton, Centreville, Clanton, Columbiana, Demopolis, Eutaw, Fayette, Fort Deposit, Greensboro, Haleyville, Hamilton, Hoover, Jasper, Linden, Livingston, Lowndesboro. Mario, Moody, Moundville, Oneonta, Pelham, Pell City, Prattville, Selma, Sulligent, Sylacauga, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Uniontown, Vernon and York.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has also issued a severe thunderstorm warning Lamar County in west central Alabama, Pickens County in west central Alabama, Greene County in west central Alabama, Sumter County in west central Alabama until 10:00 p.m. CST. At 9:06 p.m. CST, severe thunderstorms occurred along a line extending from Verona to near Bent Oak, moving northeast at 55 mph. This includes wind gusts of 60 miles per hour and damage to roofs, siding and trees.

Affected locations include: Vernon, Sulligent, Millport, Kennedy, Detroit, Beaverton, Blooming Grove, Lamar County Airport, Crews, Bedford, Crossville, Cody, Henson Springs, Lamar County Public Lake, Star, Pine Springs, Hightogy and Melborne.

These storms cause widespread wind damage throughout central Mississippi. Now seek shelter in a sturdy structure and stay away from windows! Intense thunderstorm lines can cause brief tornadoes and significant wind damage over a large area. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, it is best to move to an interior space on the lowest floor of a building. These storms can result in serious injuries and significant property damage. A tornado warning remains in effect until 400 a.m. CST for northwest and west-central Alabama.
