Savannah: Frozen

Savannah: Frozen

The coldest temperatures in nearly a year will result in severe freezes across southeast Georgia and the lowlands. The freezing temperatures will greet you at the door on Wednesday. Look for temperatures to drop into the low 20s far inland, and even into the mid 20s in the Savannah area. Coastal locations will experience low temperatures near freezing. The record low in Savannah for December 4th is 22°C, set in 1960. Temperatures will likely be just below the record, but well below average for early December. Make sure you protect plants that you may need to save by covering them or pushing them into a garage or carport. Provide your pets with a warm place to protect them from the cold. Any pipes that are exposed to the cold or are not insulated may need to be protected. You can wrap a blanket around the pipe or drain water to keep the water in the pipes moving and prevent it from freezing. Temperatures will rise through Thursday with highs in the 60s. Another cold front is moving south, delivering an intensifying blast of cold air through Friday. Another frost or freeze is possible Friday and Saturday morning. Here’s a look at the only 10-day forecast for the region. Warmer highs in the 70s are possible through next week. The next chance of showers will be Tuesday night or Wednesday next week.
