WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A Vigo County School bus driver and eight students escaped injury when the bus slid into a ditch.

Officers responded to a school bus in a ditch in western Vigo County Monday afternoon, according to Vigo County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Steve Meng. According to the Vigo County School Corporation, this happened shortly after dismissal, right in front of the Fayette Elementary School campus.

Meng said the weather was the cause of the accident.

“The driver of the bus stated that she was turning onto New Goshen Avenue when the rear end of the bus began to slide off the side of the road and ultimately went into the ditch,” Meng said.

According to Meng, there are no injuries. The school corporation also said all students and staff are safe.

According to the school corporation, students were safely taken off the bus and back to school within minutes. It added that a replacement bus was sent to resume this route and many families decided to pick up their children.
