School closures in Alabama due to snow and winter storm threat on January 10, 2025

Students in Alabama are just starting to head back to class after winter break, and now school systems must decide whether to cancel classes due to looming winter storms.

Meteorologists issued winter storm warnings for northern and part of central Alabama that will go into effect at midnight Friday.

According to the weather service, 4 to 6 inches of snow could be seen in northern Alabama, with 8 inches not out of the question in remote areas.

Those watching the winter storm across central Alabama could see 2 to 5 inches of snow and sleet.
