And here’s this system that’s bringing all the snow to the northeastern United States. You just saw SAM there in Washington. AT THIS SPOT ON THE BACK OF THIS SYSTEM YOU CAN STILL SEE SNOW FALLING. We’re getting some moisture and very cold air, which means a few flurries across Alabama today. IT WAS REALLY EXCITING TO SEE THEM AND LUCKILY I DON’T EXPECT ANY EFFECTS AS WE USE THE REST OF THE DAY. This is what the radar looked like in the last hour. AND THEN ALSO OUR TEMPERATURES. A few patches of these light flurries can be seen over central Alabama, along the I-20 corridor and even south of there, with temperatures continuing to drop. WE ARE NOW 27 DEGREES IN HALEYVILLE, 28 DEGREES IN COLEMAN JASPER, 30 DEGREES, AND EVERYWHERE NORTH ALABAMA WE ARE BELOW THE FREEZING MARK. I wanted to shrink you. THIS IS FROM OUR WVTM 13 LIVE DOPPLER RADAR SHOWING YOU WHAT’S LEFT OF JUST A FEW SMALL SNOWWINGS, ONE NORTH OF LEEDS. WE ALSO GOT ANOTHER LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS SOUTH OF MOODY ALONG I-20. Some blue patches are appearing north of Chelsea in Shelby County and then near Bessemer and Oak Grove. Only a few snowflakes fell. As the day progresses these will eventually fade. But over northern Alabama, it’s possible we could see a few slippery roads and a few bridges and overpasses that could become slippery as there were still a few snow showers and temperatures were below freezing. As a result, a winter weather advisory is in effect for all of northern Alabama, including CULLMAN County, until 7 p.m. So if you move around the rest of the day, you’ll notice that it’s just cold outside. THE NEXT HOURS WILL ALSO BE BREATHING WIND WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH. This increases the chill factor. We feel more like we’re in our 20s until about 4 p.m. and then we feel like teenagers for the rest of the evening until the early hours of the morning. So make sure you are bundled. IF YOU DRIVE LATE TODAY OR EARLY TOMORROW. AND WE WILL JUST STAY COLD FOR THE NEXT DAYS. We have an arctic air mass on site and it’s not going anywhere. BUT ON FRIDAY we begin to see the chance of potentially wintry weather across Alabama. THIS WILL BE FRIDAY AND WILL LAST UNTIL SATURDAY. We have the darker pink color here in the northern third of the state. WE WILL EXPERIENCE A PROLONGED PERIOD OF POTENTIAL WINTER MIX THERE, AND THAT MEANS TRAVEL COULD BE DIFFICULT ON FRIDAY AND THERE COULD EVEN SEE SOME SPORADIC POWER OUTAGES. THE LIGHT PINK COLOR HERE IN CENTRAL ALABAMA, REALLY RIGHT ALONG THE I-20 CORRIDOR, IS WHERE WE WILL SEE A BRIEF MIX THAT POTENTIALLY CHANGES TO COLD RAIN. BUT WE WILL STILL BE WATCHING FOR SLIPPY SPACES ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES. And then here in the countryside it is more likely that we will only see a cold rain. I WOULD LIKE TO BRING YOU TO YOUR ATTENTION AS THIS COULD CHANGE IN THE COMING DAYS. So take another look at the forecast between now and Friday for the latest information. A FEW DEGREES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE WHEN WE TALK ABOUT WINTER WEATHER. Right now it looks like the moisture is spreading across Alabama. WE ARE BELOW THE FREEZING MARK AND THAT MEANS A WINTER MIX OR EVEN SOME FREEZING RAIN THAT COULD CAUSE SOME PROBLEMS FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE FRIDAY. As the day progresses, much of central Alabama will exceed the freezing mark. That generally means it’s just a very cold rain. SAME STORY INTO THE EVENING, BUT THERE WILL STILL BE A WINTERY MIX OVER NORTH ALABAMA. SNOW IS EXPECTED IN TENNESSEE. BUT NOTE THAT FREEZING LINE MAY WAIVE SOMETHING. So be sure to check back for the latest details. FOR THE FIRST TIME WE HAVE A WINTER MIX IN THE FORECAST FOR FRIDAY. This system will be dismantled Saturday, but a few flurries are still possible Saturday. BETWEEN NO
