Offensive Player of the Match – Gunner Stockton

Every action film needs a hero. First there was Rambo, then there was the Terminator and now there’s Gunner! On Saturday night, Gunner took the lead role in the SEC Championship Game, leading the Dawgs to another great overtime victory. It might not be the way you want to go into the game after Carson Beck injured his arm; Nevertheless, Gunner came into the game and conquered the entire stadium with his performance. The team responded immediately in the second half with a touchdown drive in which Gunner delivered. The sophomore from Tiger, Georgia, went 12 of 16 for 71 yards with one interception. More importantly, he showed great character and leadership to a team that responded to him in the game. We’ll see what the future holds this season if Gunner continues to play, but he’s definitely our quarterback for the future!

Defensive Player of the Game – The ENTIRE defense

The DEFENSE… That’s right, the entire defense, every single dog that played defense in the SEC Championship on Saturday deserves this week’s Player of the Game. This award includes two games against the number one Texas Longhorns and the number two Texas Longhorns. Georgia’s defense was absolutely dominant in both games. The Junkyard Dawg defense totaled 13 sacks, 25 tackles for loss and allowed 60 yards rushing on 55 attempts, an average of 1.1 yards per carry. The Dawgs’ defense took the ball away from the Longhorns and, for once in the SEC Championship, made them work really hard to get into the end zone. This defense is certainly a tenacious, non-stop unit that thrives on speed and team tackling at the limit.

Special Teams Player of the Game – Peyton Woodring

Once again, Peyton Woodring scored crucial points in a very close and hard-fought SEC Championship. Sometimes an extra point that keeps you going in overtime can be considered the biggest kick. This year was a great year for Peyton and the special teams. In any season, points are points and Peyton has consistently come through when we needed those crucial points. I don’t want to shortchange the fake punt, it was a great play and a great pass from Bobo, but simply put: points are points.

Unsung Hero of the Game – Jeff Dantzler

This week’s Unsung Hero goes to my partner of 16 years, Jeff Dantzler. Jeff is a product of Dan Magill, Vince Dooley and Larry Munson all rolled into one. His nervous and sometimes strange behavior before a game is unique in college football. If you think something might go wrong, Jeff can double his bet. But there is no more loyal bulldog in the world than Jeff Dantzler. He keeps me going and he keeps Bulldog Nation up to date on everything that’s happening within University of Georgia Athletics. He’s a superstar, and boy, does he drive me crazy. Damn good buddy!
