SEC trolls Clemson after loss to Texas in CFP first-round game

The Clemson football season ended Saturday with a loss to fifth-seeded Texas in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

Even after this loss, the Southeastern Conference wasn’t over with the Tigers.

The SEC’s official X account (formerly Twitter) took aim at Dabo Swinney and Clemson following the Tigers’ fourth and final loss of the year. As the report shows, three of those losses came at the hands of SEC opponents, with Clemson going 0-3 against the conference:

“Swept ’em,” the tweet was captioned:

Texas jumped to a 21-point lead over the Tigers on Saturday, and although Clemson managed just one touchdown in the fourth quarter, the Longhorns took the 38-24 victory and sent Swinney and his ACC championship team home for the season.

Georgia — which defeated Texas, won the SEC championship and earned a first-round bye in the playoffs — opened the season with a 34-3 win over the Tigers. Rival South Carolina defeated them 17:14 and ended the regular season.

Georgia will open its playoff berth in the Sugar Bowl, where it will face No. 7 seed Notre Dame. With its win, Texas advances to the Peach Bowl and will face fourth-seeded Arizona State, the Big 12 champion. While South Carolina wasn’t among the final CFP teams, the Gamecocks will end their season against Illinois in the Citrus Bowl with a win finish chance to win 10 games.

Clemson and the ACC, meanwhile, had a rough day: Both the Tigers and SMU, participants in the ACC title game, were knocked out. The Mustangs in particular were a sore point for the SEC, as they secured the final spot over Alabama in the final CFP reveal. They were soundly beaten by Penn State 38-10.
