Selena Gomez and Molly Sims both swear by this sleep trick

Forget sleeping like a baby – we want to sleep like a millionaire.

And when several of them—namely Selena Gomez, Molly Sims, and Nicola Peltz Beckham—swear by the same must-have to put them to sleep, it’s worth considering.

Supermodel Molly, 51, is the latest to rave about her nighttime must-have.

“Listen, there’s nothing better than a heating pad,” she told Parade of her best sleep trick. “A heating pad every now and then can really make a difference.” But she doesn’t sweat at night either and adds: “I make my room super, super cold.”

She also likes a red light mask, magnesium supplement, and blackout curtains.

Selena Gomez, 32, also provides some warmth under the duvet. In a 2020 Instagram video, she detailed her relaxation process at the end of the day.

“(I) take a shower, wash my face, and then when I go to bed my friends laugh at me, but I have a heating pad. It’s almost like a blanket of fear. It feels really good,” she said.

And Nicola Peltz Beckham – Victoria and David Beckham’s daughter-in-law – said she uses one too.

“My in-laws keep their house so cold. Whenever I know I’m staying there, (a heating pad) is a must because I can’t sleep at that temperature. I feel like I’m sleeping in a freezer,” the 29-year-old told Strategist earlier this year.

“At home, my husband, Brooklyn, likes the room to be 60 degrees, which is absolutely wild. I always have this with me, even on the plane. It’s my comfort thing.

But wait, isn’t cold better for sleeping?

Many experts agree that a colder room promotes better sleep. The Sleep Foundation says 65 degrees is the magic number, while the Cleveland Clinic recommends setting the thermostat between 60 and 67 degrees to turn your bedroom into a “cool, dark and quiet” den.

Dr. Alex Dimitriu, a California-based psychiatrist and sleep doctor, previously told The Post that a cold room — between 60 and 67 degrees — is best for falling asleep and staying asleep.

Accordingly Cleveland Clinic sleep psychologist Michelle Dreru“Heat is a major disruptor of REM sleep,” the sleep phase associated with dreams.

Okeanis Vaou, MD, FAAN, a neurologist at UT Health San Antonio, said that even our brains work to cool down our bodies.

“When you’re about to go to bed, you’re cold. This happens because your body is cooling you down and preparing you for sleep. Your body turns off your internal thermostat to lower the temperature because this is how our body prepares for sleep. Our brain wants a cooler temperature when we sleep,” she said.

So are the stars wrong?

It depends on. If they keep the heating pad on their feet, it might help them.

“Heating your feet can have a positive effect on sleep for many people, especially because it promotes a lower core body temperature and relaxation,” explains Dr. Biquan Luo, a San Francisco-based biomedical scientist.

Using a heating pad or wearing socks can dilate the blood vessels in the feet, allowing them to hold more blood. This blood is then sucked out from other parts of the body.

“As a result, it can help dissipate body heat and reduce core body temperature,” added Dr. Luo added.

According to Dr. Christine E. Dickson, a psychologist, heating pads can also help combat insomnia in people with pain, muscle tension or poor circulation.

“The heat generated by the pad can help relax muscles and relieve pain, which can make it easier to fall asleep,” she said.

“Heating pads not only promote relaxation, but can also help improve blood circulation, which can increase the amount of oxygen and nutrients reaching the brain. This, in turn, can help reduce stress and anxiety, two common causes of insomnia.

“Using a heating pad before bed can help create a more comfortable sleep environment. Many people find that a cool room is ideal for sleeping, but if it is too cold it can be difficult to relax and fall asleep. Using a heating pad can warm your body and make it easier to fall asleep.”
