Several people were injured in shootings and knife attacks in Sky Harbor on Christmas Day

PHOENIX – Services at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s Terminal 4 were temporarily suspended due to a shooting Wednesday evening.

Phoenix police officers were called to a restaurant outside security in Terminal 4 around 9:45 p.m. on Christmas Day to reports of a shooting.

According to police, the incident began with a fight between a group of three adults and two teenagers who all knew each other.

At some point, one of the adults pulled out a gun and fired several times, shooting a woman and a teenager. The boy then pulled out a knife and cut off the man who fired the gun.

A man who suffered further injuries and a teenager were held in the parking garage, according to police.

In total, four people were taken to hospital for their injuries. The woman who was shot remains in critical condition. The other people were treated and released from the hospital.

According to the police, everyone involved knew each other and will be held accountable.

No arrests were made in connection with the shooting. A decision to file charges will be made after the investigation is complete, police said.

According to police, no other community members or visitors were injured in the altercation.

While the shooting was under investigation, officials said a man unrelated to the original incident passed firearms to other people at the airport before approaching an officer outside the scene shortly before 11:25 p.m. The man, 21-year-old Cole Nenon, began yelling at the officer as he approached him.

Officials say police ordered Nenon to stop, but he failed to do so. After an officer took Nenon to the ground to arrest him, Nenon allegedly punched and spit on the officer. Three firearms were recovered and confiscated in connection with this incident. Nenon is charged with aggravated assault.
