Several school districts in Connecticut have been notified of a possible data breach at PowerSchool

CONNECTICUT (WTNH) – Several school districts in Connecticut have been notified of a possible data breach in the PowerSchool Student Information System.

The system contains information about students and staff across the country.

Several school districts across Connecticut have issued statements regarding the violation, including Stafford Public Schools, Montville Public Schools, Newington Public Schools, Region One School District and Region 16 School District.

“Today we can confirm that both student and staff information across the region has been affected by this breach,” Region 1 Superintendent Melony Brady-Shanley said in a Facebook post Wednesday.

She said PowerSchool notified her of the cybersecurity breach on Dec. 28.

Region 16 officials said PowerSchool told them they did not expect the data to be shared or made public and that the data was deleted without any replication or distribution.

According to Region 16 officials, PowerSchool is having an outside contractor prepare an incident report that should be completed by Jan. 17.
