Several small earthquakes shake San Francisco

On Friday, several earthquakes occurred near the San Francisco Zoo.

The first, magnitude 3.6, downgraded from 3.7, arrived shortly after 7 a.m

According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred about 3 miles east of the zoo.

The quake was 8.4 kilometers deep, the agency said.

According to the San Francisco Fire Department, there were no reports of damage or injuries.

Two more earthquakes occurred shortly before 11 a.m. They were estimated at magnitudes 3.0 and 2.5, according to the USGS.

Newly inaugurated Mayor Daniel Lurie said in a statement Friday, in part: “I promised to make the safety of San Franciscans my first priority as mayor, and I am keeping that promise today in light of this morning’s earthquake.” I have ordered the city government to take immediate action. “This morning our first responders were out across the city to ensure the safety of our residents.”

In a statement Friday, the San Francisco Zoo confirmed there was no damage or impact to the zoo or its animals.

“The SF Zoo suffered no damage following today’s earthquakes near the zoo. Animal care specialists reported no impact on the health and well-being of our animal residents. After thorough inspection of the site and exhibits, no structural damage was found. The zoo detailed earthquake protocols were prepared and determined there was no risk to the safety of animals, staff and visitors.”
