“Severance” Season 2 comes with 100% perfect critic ratings

We’ve waited three long years for Severance season 2 and according to critics, it was definitely worth the wait.

Reviews are based on the first six episodes, and all 40 critics who have seen it have collectively achieved a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Perhaps not the biggest surprise since Season 1 had a 97% rating and over a hundred critics.

But it’s not just the overall score that matters, but also the nature of what critics say. That’s not just a “yeah, it’s pretty solid,” but rather effusive praise, as you can see from some of these quotes:

  • Variety: “Whatever destination Severance is aiming for, the journey dramatizes the arbitrary rules and compartmentalization of modern work better than anything else on the air.”
  • New York Post: “In an age when too much entertainment feels “made by committee” or “made by algorithm,” this is a rare show that feels like a unique creative vision.”
  • Dextero: “Severance Season 2 is an amazing achievement; a flawless example of craftsmanship, performance and tight, compulsive storytelling. Praise Kier.”

Even on Apple TV+, which has a much, much higher batting average of quality shows, particularly in the science fiction genre, than any other streaming service, Severance seems to be in a league of its own. These reviews are still in the early stages and the actual release date for season two is January 17th. Season 2 will consist of ten episodes (up from nine episodes in Season 1) and will air weekly without a binge release. Even without a double-episode premiere like we sometimes see with shows on Apple. I guess they really want this to last as long as possible. Season 2 of Severance won’t end until the end of March.

Even though 2025 is only eight days old, it is already being called one of the best series of 2025. We probably won’t have to wait quite as long for season three, as there was a bit of a pandemic between season 1 and now, and whatever behind-the-scenes drama there was reportedly surrounding the show also appears to have been resolved.

We don’t know how long Severance plans to run for. Author Mohamad El Masi says the story is completely “mapped out,” but he doesn’t know if it’s two or six seasons. Well, it’s not two yet, and the show will be back for at least the third season, even if there’s no official announcement yet. Apple TV+ will undoubtedly keep this show running for as long as it takes to complete this story arc, and we won’t have to worry about a sudden cancellation. See you in a week and a half.
