Severe thunderstorms with possible tornadoes will hit parts of Houston on Christmas Eve

HOUSTON – We expect another warm day on Christmas Eve ahead of the cold front that is expected to bring rain and the possibility of thunderstorms during the overnight hours.

Most of the day will be warm, humid and windy, with a few light showers. Some of these storms could be strong or severe, bringing the risk of small hail and gusty winds Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Christmas Eve: Track the chance of rain and thunderstorms Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

The front doesn’t look too threatening, but it seems to be coming in time for ol’ Kris Kringle to fly over most of the greater Houston area.

The current timing drives us stormy through the night hours. With Rudolph on Santa’s team, this shouldn’t be a problem at all – they’ve seen much worse.

Apparently this stretch may experience loud thunderstorms overnight with some strong wind gusts, lightning and heavy rain for less than an hour or so.

The line will move quickly enough to keep the risk of flooding at bay. Most rainfall amounts will be between half an inch and an inch. Some brooding on the streets, but nothing major.

If you’re traveling to the Texans game on Wednesday, there’s a slight chance of lingering showers, but by midday it should become partly cloudy with temperatures in the 70s.
