Shedeur Sanders can take a Colorado coach not named Deion to the NFL

Everyone has their eye on Deion Sanders following his son Shedeur Sanders to the NFL — but no one is talking much about the possibility of Colorado football offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur following the “grown-up QB” instead.

Coach Prime said he’s not a “baby daddy” but a father. A father takes care of his children, and hiring Shurmur was a step toward preparing Shedeur for the pros.

If Shedeur goes to the pros, why not take his effective play-caller with him? Shurmur doesn’t have to return to an NFL head coaching job, but is likely willing to take another job as an offensive coordinator.

Shedeur and Shurmur connect on a level that goes beyond the game. At the end of the Buffs’ winning streak, both had the best things to say about each other through Kansas in week 13.

“I can’t really reveal much about what he says in my ear, but it’s a great relationship,” Sanders said in early November (h/t). NBC Sports). “He understands what I see, what he sees. We’ll discuss everything.”

“The better players make everyone look a little smarter,” Shurmur explained. “I enjoyed our journey together. It was short, but we got very close to it very quickly. We kind of think alike. We can come to the same conclusion about what it should look like.”

There is no need to import “Prime Time,” Coach Prime and all, no matter where Shedeur goes. Shurmur is the one pulling the strings behind his brilliance this season. Just bring him instead.

If nothing else, you would have far fewer media distractions.
