You can never say that Shedeur Sanders lacks confidence.

Hours before what will likely be the final game of his college career in the Alamo Bowl, the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback debuted custom cleats featuring the logo and colors of the New York Giants, who happen to be the current owners of the season’s No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

However, for some reason, Sanders took the field at the Alamodome wearing a pair of black cleats rather than the Giants’ pair. The message was sent anyway: “We know where we’re going.”

The Sanders family has been pretty clear about where they want Shedeur to be drafted next year. Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said directly, “The Giants are not giving up on this pick…Shedeur will be No. 1.” He has also said in the past that Shedeur is willing to disappoint Eli Manning in the draft (so that force the team that selects him to trade him by refusing to play there).

Whether the Giants are willing to do that or even have a choice is another story. With a record of 2-13, which is the worst in the NFL, they are currently number one, right behind them are five other teams with three wins and many of them still have two games to play.

Sanders is by no means the best quarterback in a relatively weak class or even the best quarterback in his class. The latest Yahoo Sports mock draft saw the Giants select Miami quarterback Cam Ward at No. 1 while Sanders fell to the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 6. As much as Sanders may consider himself a top pick – and we’re not ruling out the possibility that he knows something we don’t – he’ll still have a lot to prove in the eyes of the NFL by transferring back.

Meanwhile, Travis Hunter was a Colorado player who had some custom cleats made and actually wore them during the Alamo Bowl. To celebrate his recent victory, he had a pair of Heisman shoes made.

Hunter is another candidate for the No. 1 pick, which likely depends on which team holds the pick. An unparalleled two-way talent, Hunter is considered by many to be the top prospect in this year’s draft.
