BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. >> “Shogun,” FX’s historical epic set in Imperial Japan, won the prestigious best drama television series trophy at Sunday’s Golden Globes, and “Hacks,” known for its complexity female stand-up comedian, won the comedy victory award.

“Shogun,” a tale of political machinations, also won best female and male actor awards for first-time winners Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada.

“Thank you for everyone who has been in my life. They all brought me here,” Sanada said after his win.

“Believe in yourself and never give up,” he added.

The series won a total of four awards, including the best male supporting actor award for first-time Globe winner Tadanobu Asano, who plays Kashigi Yabushige, Izu’s master.

“Shogun” follows the character Lord Yoshii Toranag, played by Sanada, as he discovers secrets that can help him destroy his enemies.

“Hacks” won two awards, including best actress in a comedy for Jean Smart, who plays stand-up comedian Deborah Vance in the Max series.

“I never thought I would be so happy to be called a hacker,” she said during her acceptance speech.

Other notable winners included Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” for best limited series or anthology.

“People were crying out for something that expressed the painful contradictions of being human,” said Richard Gadd, who plays stalker victim Donny Dunn, while accepting the award.

Jessica Gunning won best supporting actress for her role as stalker Martha Scott in “Baby Reindeer.”

Colin Farrell also won best male actor in a limited series or anthology for his role as villain Oswald Cobb in Max’s The Penguin.

In 2023, Eldridge Industries, along with Dick Clark Productions (DCP), purchased the Golden Globe assets and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – which was criticized for a lack of diversity and ethical lapses in the awards’ administration – was subsequently shut down.

Under new ownership, the organization has grown to 300 journalists from 75 countries around the world and 60% racial and ethnic diversity.
