SYDNEY ENJOYS THE DAY OFF. Our day begins foggy and mild. ON THE I-85 CORRIDOR WE HAVE UPPER 50S TO LOWER 60S. UPPER 1950s IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA. AND WE HAVE SEEN SOUTHEASTERN BREEZES EVERYWHERE FROM 10 TO 15 PLUS. AND THEY WILL BE STRONGER, GUSTY OR NEAR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. MANY THINGS ARE NOW SHOWN IN THE GRAPHICS ON OUR SCREEN. This is the line of thunderstorms we have been seeing since this morning. When I first came in, it was right on the border of Georgia and Alabama. NOW IT’S ON TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA AND GEORGIA BORDER. THERE ARE COMMON WINNERS WITH COMMON LIGHTNING ASSOCIATED WITH THESE WINNERS AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS. That’s why the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning ahead of this line of storms. AND NOW THIS IS EXPANDING NOT ONLY INTO PARTS OF ANDERSON AND PICKENS AND GREENVILLE COUNTY, BUT BACK INTO NORTHEASTERN GEORGIA AND THE ENTIRE AREA IS UNDER A TORNADO WATCH UNTIL 1:00 AM TODAY. That’s exactly what “clock” means. We are mindful of the potential for some of these thunderstorms to become severe. So at the moment it was just strong thunderstorms, frequent lightning and gusty winds. BUT THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AND TORNADO CLOCK WILL CONTINUE UNTIL 1:00 AM TODAY. THIS IS A FAST MOVER. AND BY MID TO LATE MORNING YOU SHOULD PUSH TOWARD THE EASTERN PART OF THE UPSTATE. AND THIS AFTERNOON WE WILL SEE AN IMPROVEMENT IN THE WEATHER. BUT A LOT of thunder, lightning and strong, gusty winds were associated with this line of thunderstorms. So over the next 12 hours, expect fog, persistent showers and thunderstorms in the morning, better weather in the afternoon and a mild day for this time of year. IN THE MOUNTAINS, SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL REACH THE HIGH 50S OVER THE NEXT HOURS, starting to improve after lunchtime. LOOKING AHEAD IN THE FOUR-DAY PLUS FORECAST. A BEAUTIFUL DAY MORNING. High of 63, a few spotty showers Tuesday. New Year’s Day will dry up. COOLER WITH A HIGH OF 56. THURSDAY, FRIDAY PRETTY NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR, BUT MUCH COOLER THAN NORMAL, SATURDAY WITH A LOW OF 27. A HIGH OF JUST 47, AND THE MOUNTAINS REALLY GET OVER 50’S MONDAY NEXT WEEKEND COOL DOWN. This will be a beautiful day. TUESDAY A CHANCE FOR SHOWER ON WEDNESDAY.
