Sir Elton John, 77, shares heartbreaking five-word statement he wants on gravestone amid declining health problems

Sir Elton John has reflected on his deteriorating health and even addressed his mortality in recent months – and now the music icon has made a heartbreaking wish.

The 77-year-old “Rocket Man” hitmaker has several monumental life achievements to his credit, but wants just one simple thing to be his ultimate legacy.

John recently opened up about some serious health issues and worried fans by candidly saying earlier this year: “I don’t know how much time I have left.”

This month, the legendary star was named TIME Magazine’s Icon of the Year and the talented musician explained his posthumous hope.

“All I want to say on my gravestone is, ‘He was a great father,'” he told PEOPLE.

The I’m Still Standing singer has been married to film producer David Furnish since 2014 and the couple have two sons: 13-year-old Zachary and 11-year-old Elijah.

The touching admission comes not long after John expressed similar sentiments in his Disney+ documentary Elton John: Never Too Late.

Speaking about his young sons, he said: “They are worried because they know how old I am. Not so much David, but me. They love their father, so they want me to be with them forever.”

“I want to be there forever. I want to see them have kids, get married, but I don’t think I’ll be there for that. Who knows? You never know.”

He also emphasized that he didn’t know “how much time I have left.”

“When you’re my age, you think about it more,” he explained. “You think about life and… and death. You think, ‘Well, I just want to be where I want to be now.'”

Earlier this year, John battled a “severe eye infection” and along with other health issues, he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the early 2000s.

The Candle In The Wind singer has also had knee and hip surgeries in recent years.

Just this month he also announced that he had “lost” his eyesight. In early December, the musician attended the red carpet premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical” accompanied by his husband Furnish.

As he took the stage, he shared an update on his eye health after revealing months ago that he had suffered from a “severe eye infection” that had resulted in vision impairment.

“As some of you may know, I had problems and now I have lost my sight,” he told the crowd.

He continued: “I didn’t get to see the performance, but I enjoyed it.”

In the speech, he thanked his partner and explained that he had been his “rock.”

“For my husband, who is my rock because I couldn’t get to a lot of the previews… I have a hard time watching it, but I love hearing it and it sounded good tonight, okay. “Thank you for coming!” he concluded.

The singer explained earlier this year that he had lost his sight in one eye. However, he remains in good spirits after delivering a positive message on Good Morning America this week.
