Fans were stunned as the Rocketman singer left the stage at the Royal Albert Hall

Royal Variety viewers were left confused after Sir Elton John’s contribution to the show. The legendary artist took to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall for the 2024 edition of the world’s longest-running entertainment show.

The Rocketman singer was joined on stage by his husband David Furnish as they introduced a performance of his new musical The Devil Wears Prada. The 77-year-old has composed the music for the new stage show, which is currently being performed at the Dominion Theater in London.

Sir Elton took part in a comedy sketch with lead character Miranda Priestly before leaving the stage. Viewers watching the show on X took to the social media platform as they expected the legendary musician to perform one of his hits.

Atomic said: “Is that all Elton will do? A few sentences.” Matt addressed the comments, adding: “I honestly expected Elton John to sing.”

Another user said: “When you book Elton John you want him to sit at a piano and sing a decent song.” Sir Elton revealed he has retired from touring but may still perform a one-off show.

Sir Elton opened up about the heartfelt reason why he stepped away from appearing in the new documentary Elton John Never Too Late, released on Disney+ on Friday. The singer is the proud father of two sons, Zachary (13) and Elijah (11).

In the documentary, he explained how he hopes to spend more time with his children. He said: “I don’t know how much time I have left. When you’re my age you think about it more, you think about life and death. After this tour I don’t want to do anything anymore. That’s when you start thinking about mortality.

The musician wants to spend as much time as possible with his family as he heartbreakingly admitted that he doesn’t know what phases of their life he will live to see. He added: “They love their father so they want me to be with them forever. I want my kids to get married and I don’t think I’ll stick with that.”

“You never know. That’s why I want to give them the best of my time while I’m around them. The time we spend together is so wonderful and so valuable.”
