Sixers cut Joel Embiid, Andre Drummond, Kyle Lowry vs. Suns – NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Sixers ruled out Joel Embiid on Monday night for their first night at home following a six-game road trip.

Before their game against the Suns, the Sixers suffered injuries to Embiid, Andre Drummond (left toe sprain) and Kyle Lowry (right hip pain). Jared McCain (left lateral meniscus surgery) and KJ Martin (left foot stress reaction) remained out.

Embiid’s absence is due to the left ankle sprain he suffered a few games ago, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse said. According to Nurse, Embiid’s injury is “nothing major” and he is “everyday.” Embiid confirmed on Christmas that he injured his left foot late in the Sixers’ win over the Celtics and was listed as questionable in subsequent injury reports. He sat out the team’s loss to the Kings on January 1 on the first night of back-to-back games.

Embiid had played very well since leaving on Dec. 23 against the Spurs, averaging 30.4 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists in his last five games. During that stretch, he shot 50 percent from the field, 56.3 percent from three-point range and 89.5 percent at the foul line.

Lowry has been a regular feature in recent injury reports. The nurse said Monday that Lowry’s hip was “really bothering” the 38-year-old security guard.

After missing the Sixers’ last three games with a sprained left hand, Kelly Oubre Jr. was considered fit to face Phoenix.
