A driver drove into a tree on Lippestrasse in Hamm. And he was very lucky. The police were able to give the reason for the steering wheel breaking.

Hamm – After an accident, there were traffic problems in Hammer Osten on Wednesday afternoon (December 4th). At around 2 p.m., a car crashed into a tree near the Ostenfeldmark shooting club on Lippestrasse. A single accident, no other vehicle was involved.

The Opel Insignia has a LIP license plate and the driver comes from Lage. He was heading towards the city center. According to police reports, the 63-year-old said he drove off the road as a result of a sneezing reflex; A witness confirmed this information. He crossed the oncoming lane, veered off the road to the left and crashed head-on into a tree. He was very lucky that no vehicle was coming towards him at that moment. According to police, the driver was taken to hospital for outpatient treatment with minor injuries.

Lippestrasse initially remained closed for about three quarters of an hour. Traffic was diverted from Uentrop from the lock and from Werries at St.-Georgs-Platz. Traffic was later directed past the scene of the accident.

The fire brigade was on site with emergency services from station 2. These secure the scene of the accident, ensure fire protection and disconnect the vehicle’s battery. The Opel was significantly damaged in the front area; The vehicle had to be towed away. The police estimated the material damage caused at around 19,000 euros.

A few hundred meters to the west, a traffic light had recently been switched off, which also led to major traffic problems.
