Southern Wisconsin

Temperatures will be cool over the weekend, with highs below 20 degrees. Overnight lows are expected to be in the single digits. There will be some sunshine on Saturday and Sunday.

Monday will be the most impactful travel day on the roads as a wintry system moves in and mild temperatures may allow for a mix of rain and snow. Roads could become icy Monday evening as temperatures cool. Christmas Eve on Tuesday looks mostly calm, aside from the possibility of persistent rain. Temperatures will be in the mid 30s.

Northeastern Wisconsin

It will be a cold but dry weekend with high temperatures in the teens and lower 20s. In many places the minimum temperatures are around freezing point, in some places they can also fall below freezing point.

Snow is possible on Monday, and temperatures near freezing should continue to prevent mixing of sleet and slush. About 5 to 10 cm of snow could fall, slowing traffic on the roads. Christmas Eve looks calm but cloudy, with highs in the 30s.

Western Wisconsin and Eastern Minnesota

Saturday looks to be the coolest day with high temperatures in the 10 to 20 °C range. Snow is likely on Monday, especially earlier in the day. Areas north of Minneapolis and Eau Claire could see accumulations of more than two inches by Monday evening.

Any travel on Christmas Eve will be much easier with dry weather but cloudy skies. In most cases there are mild temperatures around 30°C.

Eastern Iowa and Northern Illinois

Temperatures will be cool on Saturday, in the mid 20s C, but will warm back up to 30 C on Sunday.

Monday looks chaotic, with a mix of rain and snow. If you had planned to travel on Monday, you may want to postpone those plans to Sunday or Tuesday. Not much snow accumulation is expected, but roads could be icy.

There’s a chance of a few more rains between now and Christmas Eve, but most of the day looks dry with temperatures in the mild 40s.
