Snow and cold warning

DETROIT – Attention metro Detroit residents, winter weather is making a strong return.

Looking ahead, snow is expected to begin between 8pm and midnight tonight. Everyone should remain vigilant, especially those in areas north of I-69, including the northern portions of Livingston, Oakland and Macomb counties, where conditions may be more severe.

With a winter weather advisory in place, it’s time to plan ahead. Accumulations could range from just a tenth of an inch to a few inches, depending on where these bands of snow settle.

The strong winds we expect, reaching speeds of up to 35 mph, may also reduce visibility. So be careful.

Road conditions and advice for commuters

Commuters beware! Snow isn’t just a pretty sight; it often disrupts the streets. If you work late shifts or drive at night, be aware of changing conditions. The real challenge will be for those out and about late at night. Our road crews are preparing to work both major and secondary roads between 1am and 4am

So if you’re an early riser, prepare for a colder morning with wind chills in the single digits. It is advisable to allow extra travel time and stay tuned to Local 4 Plus for real-time updates on snow bands.

Cold snap and resources for heat

Following the snowfall, temperatures are expected to remain icy with afternoon highs around 31 degrees.

Although this change in weather could cause a temporary headache, there will be improvements over the weekend. By following Local 4’s updates, you can ensure residents are informed and prepared.
