Snow, gusty winds in the affected region; Lake effect snowfall is expected in northern counties

Widespread snow showers, localized snow squalls and strong wind gusts will impact the area Wednesday through Thursday.

This wintry system has resulted in various winter weather warnings being issued across the region.

A lake effect snow warning has been issued for Elk, Cameron and Jefferson counties. Heavy snowfall and blowing/drifting snow are expected in these areas, which may lead to slippery driving overnight Wednesday into early Thursday.

A winter storm warning has been issued for Cambria, Somerset and Clearfield counties. Higher elevations in these counties will experience higher snowfall.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Northern Center and Indiana counties.

Snow showers will begin on Wednesday evening, with the most consistent snow falling between 10pm and 3am. This is where we will catch most of the snowfall.

Snow squalls are also possible on Wednesday night. Areas west of I-99 can expect 1 to 3 inches of snow. Higher elevations in Cambria and Somerset counties could see higher snowfall, around 3 to 5 inches.

Counties where the lake effect snow warning is in effect will see 3 to 5 inches of snow, but where some of the most stable lake effect snow bands are forming, locally higher totals could occur in some locations.

Slippery spots are possible for the morning commute on Thursday. The most consistent snowfall will taper off early Thursday morning, leaving some lingering snow showers and lake-effect storms Thursday afternoon into Friday.
