The week will start off cold and quiet with high temperatures only reaching 30 degrees on Monday. As a storm approaches, cloud cover will increase Monday afternoon.

There will be light snow in the highlands throughout the day on Monday, but this snow will not reach lower elevations until late Monday. Northern Colorado will begin snowing around 6 p.m. The snow won’t reach the Denver metro until later Monday evening. It will accumulate before the morning commute and continue to fall through Tuesday morning. Snow will begin falling late Monday evening and continue into early Tuesday afternoon, with the worst of the snow falling just in time for the morning commute.

Northern Colorado can expect 2 to 4 inches of snow, while most of metro Denver and the adjacent plains can expect 2 to 6 inches of snow. Snow totals could exceed 6 inches in the Palmer Divide and Southern Foothills, where elevations rise to 6,000 feet. Snow will gradually fall from north to south on Tuesday afternoon and in most cases stop by Tuesday evening.

Tuesday will also be a significantly colder afternoon. Highs are only expected to climb into the mid-20s, while overnight lows will dip into the single digits across the state.
