INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Although we got back into the 40s today, we didn’t feel like it as strong southerly winds kept it colder. We’re still on track for an active Wednesday evening as the next shot of arctic air moves in on Thursday.

Wind advisories are in effect until 4 a.m. EST Thursday morning.

Wednesday evening: We are seeing a transition from rain to snow with the possibility of localized heavy snowfall. These bursts of snow can reduce visibility, cause rapid accumulation of light, and make driving slippery.

Temperatures will drop into the teens during the night. Combined with the drop in temperature, there will still be quite strong winds with gusts up to 40-45 mph.

Thursday: The stage is set for a freezing Thursday, starting with the coldest wind showers we’ve experienced since January. We’ll have a hard time finding our way into the mid 20s for high Thursday afternoon. The breezy wind will keep temperatures below 20°C throughout the day, while gusts could reach speeds of up to 20-30mph at times.

Friday: There won’t be much improvement by the end of the work week, but it will be a start. Light winds and slightly warmer temperatures are expected. Highs will be in the upper 20s to low 30s.

7 day forecast: The gradual warming trend will continue into the weekend, when high temperatures will reach the 40s again. Saturday will be mostly dry and sunny, making it the best weather day of the weekend. Sunday will be warmer, but expect the chance of clouds and rain to increase throughout the day.
