‘Snow Worries:’ Memes are piling up after a winter storm hits much of the US

Across the U.S., people are hunkering down at home after several inches of snow blanketed parts of the Central Plains, the Midwest and the East Coast. And as the snow piles up, so do the memes.

More than 60 million people in the Central Plains, Midwest and along the East Coast will be bombarded by heavy snowfall due to the “disruptive” winter storm moving through the area, according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall could be between 20 and 35 cm in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service, areas in Washington, D.C. received up to 7 inches of snow, a significant amount for the nation’s capital.

The storm is also expected to disrupt travel, bringing some places to a standstill, closing schools and roads and creating hazards. Despite the inconvenience that comes with being snowed in, many turn to social media and find humor or beauty in the situation.

Here are some of the best.

Lynn Egan of Hartland has to dump snow almost high on Feb. 2, 2011 because she is too tall to clear her driveway in Hartland. A three-day snowstorm buried southeast Wisconsin under more than 19 inches of snow.

It’s pretty cool: Massive winter storm devastates the country

Horses in the snow

The Kentucky Derby shared an adorable video of horses playing in the snow on X.

“Snow days = best days!” it wrote in its post.

In the video, two horses can be seen rolling around in the white, fluffy snow as snow continues to fall around them. When the giant animals stand up, the snow is up to their knees.

Chaos on the street (not really)

Whenever snow hits places that don’t normally see large accumulations of snow, some people overreact while others scoff at it.

In a meme posted on X, a photo of traffic jams behind a burning car can be seen.

“After DC got 2 inches of snow,” said X user @JasonGreenwal12 as a chaotic scene unfolded on the streets.

The photo isn’t recent and wasn’t caused by the recent winter storm, but it gets the point across: People in DC just aren’t used to heavy snow.

Snowball fight

The same user also posted a video of a huge snowball fight on the street.

In the video, it appears as if dozens of people wrapped in winter clothing are throwing snow at each other.

“Welcome to a snow day in Washington DC,” he said post reads.

What’s in the name of a (snow plow)?

While some people are having fun in the snow, others are giggling at the names of Wichita, Kansas snow plows.

“The city of Wichita KS snow plow names made me a GEEKIN,” said user @tornadopaigeyy. “I love this country.”

In the post, over a dozen snowplows are seen making their way through the frozen tundra left by the storm.
