Ten centimeters of snow fell on Stuttgart late Thursday evening and early Friday morning, leading to several closures and icy roads. The snowfall continued throughout the day, worsening already dangerous conditions.

Stuttgart Fire Department battalion chief Bert McKenzie said streets in the city were icy and covered in snow. He advised motorists to exercise extreme caution if they have to leave the car, but stressed that it is best to stay home and stay off the roads if possible.

According to idriveArkansas.com, the highways around Stuttgart are also icy.

McKenzie added that drivers and parents should be aware that children are likely playing on or near neighborhood streets across the city today. He urged everyone to be particularly careful.

He also stressed the importance of keeping children safe while playing outdoors, recommending they wear appropriate clothing to protect them from the cold and take frequent breaks to warm up.

“Cold weather may be upon us, so let’s make sure everyone is warm and safe,” McKenzie said.

While local schools decided to close yesterday, many businesses are also closing due to road conditions. To keep the community informed about closures and operating hours changes, the IHK Stuttgart created a Facebook post to share updates with residents. Regular updates are also available on EAB radio stations Country 97.3/106.9, The Duck 105.5/102.5, Oldies 1240 AM/96.1/102.7 and 101.7 Jack FM.
