Snowfall is expected to taper off after midday on Saturday

On Saturday the maximum temperatures will be around 34 degrees; Some areas will accumulate more snow than others, with thicker snow likely east of Kansas City.

In the morning, when we wake up to snow and impact day is already approaching, the streets are a bit chaotic in some parts of the metro. You know, we’ve been monitoring the road temperature north of I-70. It’s starting to drop below freezing. So be very careful when staying on the road, especially when going up and having to go over an overpass or turn. Remember: If you need to turn, you don’t want to be accelerating or braking at that time. YOU WANT TO GET THE SPEED YOU NEED TO SUCCESSFULLY COVER THAT CORNER. You step on the brakes, you could spin, you accelerate. THIS COULD ALSO LEAD TO SPINNING. Here’s a look at our main weather feature today. IT’S OBVIOUSLY A WEATHER DAY. This is the first snow of the season. THIS WILL GO IN THE BOOKS AS A LIGHT SNOW EVENT, BUT IT WILL STILL HAVE AN IMPACT BECAUSE IT IS THE FIRST OF THE SEASON AND OBVIOUSLY ALREADY CAUSING PROBLEMS ON THE ROADS. The heaviest snowfall will be over by midday. IT WILL BE A MORNING EVENT. WE STILL BELIEVE 1 TO 2 INCHES OF SNOW IS LIKELY IN THE METRO, ALTHOUGH SOME AREAS COULD HAVE 2 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW. IT FEEL LIKE IT’S 17 DEGREES IN KANSAS CITY RIGHT NOW. It feels like it’s 21 degrees. In Odessa, the wind chill in Leavenworth is 18 degrees. In Lawrence the wind temperature is 21 degrees. The actual air temperature in Lawrence is 31 degrees. It’s 28 degrees. Here in town the temperature is 32 degrees in Warrensburg. Apparently it’s so cold that this snow doesn’t stop coming when it arrives. TOTALLY ACCORDING TO SCHEDULE, SOME AREAS OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED. THERE, IN THE DARKER BLUE, WE HAVE ABOUT A HALF AN INCH ON THE HIGH SIDE ALREADY THIS MORNING, A DUST IN SOME AREAS AND IN SOME AREAS YOU HAVEN’T SEEN SNOW YET, BUT HERE IS FUTURESCAN IN MOTION WHICH PAUSES AT 10:00 AM TODAY MORNING. YOU CAN SEE A STRONG RIBBON COMING THROUGH THE CITY, BUT I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO POINT OUT TO SOME OF OUR SOUTHERN COMMUNITIES THAT COLD RAIN WILL FALL DURING THIS EVENT UNTIL MIDNOON. IT LEAVES THE SUBWAY, BUT IT’S STILL SNOWING QUITE HEAVY FROM MARSHALL TO SEDALIA WARRENSBURG. AND THEN IT GET EXCITING SO IT DON’T STAY WITH US ALL DAY. The potential amount of snowfall, as I mentioned, is 1 to 2 inches. There’s probably a band that runs right through our area that could be 2 to 4 inches, and then there are a few northern or extreme southern areas that may not see any measurable snow today. TODAY’S WEATHER INFLUENCE DAY FOR THE SNOW. Temperatures will remain around freezing all day tomorrow morning with the freshly fallen snow. PARTIALLY TO A CLEAR SKY. It will be very cold in the morning. 17 DEGREES WHEN THE SUN COMES TODAY, AND TOMORROW THE SUN WILL DEFINITELY MAKE IT. Don’t forget to take your sunglasses with you. THERE’S NOTHING BRIGHTER THAN NEWLY FALLED SNOW, SO YOU’LL NEED THESE SUNGLASSES WHEN THE SUN COMES ON MONDAY. We’ll still be below freezing on Tuesday and Wednesday, and we’ll be above freezing on Thursday, which will melt off any leftover snow for next weekend’s Chiefs game.
