Snowing overnight, gusty winds for Massachusetts

Storm Team 5 is tracking an Alberta Clipper system that is expected to bring snow to southern New England overnight. The first flakes should arrive late, around 11 p.m. While the storm won’t be severe at any time, the worst of the storm is expected between midnight and 4 p.m. “The snow will be mostly concentrated along and north of the Pike, but I think we’ll see some severe weather to the south as well,” the meteorologist said Kelly Ann Cicalese. At 7 a.m. the storm moves north and it begins to dry out. As a result, patchy layers of snow may occur in Boston and south of the Mass Pike. Areas north of the Pike could see up to 2 inches of snow. Interior areas along and north of Route 2 could see up to 3 inches. Smooth roads will be possible for most of the area. Meanwhile, Storm Team 5 will be tracking other impacts in southeastern Massachusetts. “Snow is not a big factor on the Cape and Islands, but the wind will be,” says Cicalese, with gusts possible until Sunday afternoon. Elsewhere, wind gusts around 35 miles per hour are possible. As temperatures approach the mid to upper 40s Sunday afternoon, any slippery spots will melt away. Our next storm arrives Monday afternoon and will be in the form of rain for most of southern New England, although our forecasters will be watching for possible mixing with snow northwest of Boston Monday evening.
