While holiday moviegoing begins at Christmas, we can’t ignore the fact that 95% of K-12 schools there are closed today – and colleges too. Paramounts Sonic the Hedgehog 3after coming in lower than expected $60.1 million will continue its box office rally with around opening weekend $9 million today at 3,761 locations with a running total of $69.1 million. The image’s upcoming 5-day outlook from Christmas Wednesday to Sunday appears to be north of $50 million.

The Jeff Fowler-directed threequel starring Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz is down about 41% today from its $15.3 million Sunday cume.

Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion Kingafter a very low $35.4 million Opening, will see another one $7 million Today. That’s down 32% from Sunday’s $10.2 million. The four-day on Mufasa Is $42.4 million. The Barry Jenkins-directed prequel is worth checking out $40 to $45 million in the 5-day Christmas run, followed by Moana 2 with $20 to $22 million.

Universals Evil looks around $4 million today after a $14.1 million fifth weekend, -38%, in 3,296 theaters. The Jon M. Chu-directed feature version of the Broadway musical – the highest-grossing in the genre to date – is set to score a domestic hit on Tuesday $388.5 million. The film is definitely going to cruise $400 million until the end of the holiday weekend.

Moana 2 does $4 million on Monday.

There’s plenty of competition on Wednesday with four sprawling, adult-oriented, authoritarian-leaning theatrical releases – three of them R-rated: “Focus Features,” the Robert Eggers-directed horror film Nosferatu (2,600 locations, previewed on Christmas Eve at 7 p.m.); James Mangold’s biography of the young Bob Dylan from Searchlight A complete unknown Starring Timothee Chalamet, Edward Norton, Elle Fanning and Monica Barbaro (2,500 cinemas, previews at 2 p.m. Christmas Eve) is the spicy, cheeky film from A24 Baby girl by Halina Reijn with Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson (2,000 cinemas, no previews). There’s also the Rachel Morrison-directed PG-13 boxing film from Amazon MGM Studios The fire within (2000 cinemas, 2:00 p.m. preview on Christmas Eve). More on this separately.
