Help is on the way for the Warriors.

Golden State is completing a trade to acquire veteran guard Dennis Schröder and a second-round draft pick from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for injured guard De’Anthony Melton and three second-round picks, a source told NBC’s Monte Poole Sports Bay Area confirmed Saturday. The trade will be completed on Sunday when Melton becomes trade-eligible.

ESPN’s Shams Charania was the first report the news.

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Nets will pick up the remainder of Melton’s one-year, $12.8 million contract that he signed last offseason. Melton suffered a partial tear of his left ACL on November 12 against the Dallas Mavericks and underwent surgery on December 4 in Los Angeles. He is expected to make a full recovery to play next season.

The Warriors started the 2024-25 NBA season red-hot but have cooled since then, winning just four of their last 12 games, dropping them to fifth place in the Western Conference at 14-10. Their most recent loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday knocked them out of the NBA Cup and prompted Dub Nation to demand action before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.

Golden State’s recent shooting woes appear to have forced general manager Mike Dunleavy to take action, and he managed to do so without giving up on any of the Warriors’ young talent.

Schröder, who is averaging 18.4 points and 6.6 assists per game this season, will certainly help give Golden State an offensive spark. And as a seasoned veteran in his 12th NBA season, the 31-year-old is exactly the type of space-savvy player the Warriors are known to covet.
