Sources – 49ers’ Guerendo will play; Greenlaw activated

San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo plans to play against the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night despite his sprained ankle, sources tell ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Guerendo, who is listed as questionable, insists he is “feeling good,” sources said.

The 49ers placed linebacker Dre Greenlaw off the PUP list on Thursday for his first game back from a torn Achilles tendon he suffered in the Super Bowl last season.

Niners defensive lineman Nick Bosa (left hip, oblique) is listed as questionable but will likely play, although the team will test him before the game to be sure, sources told Schefter.

The 49ers (6-7) likely need to win to get back into the playoffs. They ruled out left tackle Trent Williams (left ankle), safety Malik Mustapha (chest, shoulder) and guard Ben Bartch (high ankle sprain) on Wednesday. Bartch was placed on injured reserve on Thursday.

Guerendo took over the starting running back spot after injuries to Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason. He ran for 78 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 50 yards on Sunday against the Chicago Bears before leaving with his foot injury.

The rookie running back did not practice on Monday and Tuesday, but was upgraded to limited in Wednesday’s walk-through.

If Guerendo were limited, Patrick Taylor Jr. would be next in line to work out of the backfield, with practice squad defensive back Ke’Shawn Vaughn and recently added Israel Abanikanda also available as options.

Before he was eliminated against the Bears, Guerendo entered the 49ers’ record books with his successful first start. He became the fourth player in franchise history to have more than 100 scrimmage yards and at least two touchdowns in his first start, joining Carlos Hyde (2015), Earl Cooper (1980) and Hugh McElhenny (1952).

Information from ESPN’s Nick Wagoner was used in this report.
