Sources – Quinn Ewers will start despite high ankle sprain

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers remains in the starting lineup for the No. 3 Longhorns as he deals with an upper ankle sprain, sources told ESPN.

Ewers has spent the week frantically rehabilitating after being injured in a home win against Kentucky last Saturday. Ewers is expected to start Saturday at No. 20 Texas A&M, but sources said he likely won’t be at 100%. He is listed as probable on the SEC violation report.

The ankle sprain limited Ewers against Kentucky, as Texas ran the ball all 15 plays on an 86-yard drive in the second half following the injury.

With Ewers expected to have limited mobility, there is an opportunity for sophomore quarterback Arch Manning to make some cameo appearances on Saturday night, particularly in run-specific situations. Manning saw an uptick in training photos this week.

Manning brings an element of dynamism to the running game and Ewers’ ability to execute designed runs will likely be limited due to the injury.

Texas A&M has struggled with mobile quarterbacks this season, including South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, who ran for 106 yards and a touchdown in the Aggies’ 44-20 loss. Notre Dame’s Riley Leonard ran for 63 yards in the Irish’s season-opening win at Texas A&M.

Ewers has thrown 23 touchdowns and six interceptions for Texas this season. He completed 68% of his passes and threw for 2,089 yards.
