Sources – The Panthers are placing leading rusher Chuba Hubbard on the IR

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard, who rushed for a career-high 1,195 yards, is finished for the year.

The Panthers (4-11) are placing the NFL’s sixth-leading rusher on injured reserve in 2024 due to a calf and knee injury, a league source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The news came after coach Dave Canales indicated Friday that Hubbard, listed as questionable on the final injury report for Sunday’s 1 p.m. game at Tampa Bay, would play.

Hubbard had a 25-carry, 152-yard rushing effort that included two touchdowns, including a walk-off 21-yarder in an overtime win against Arizona that knocked the Cardinals out of playoff contention.

The Panthers gave Hubbard a four-year contract extension worth $33.2 million earlier this year.

With Hubbard out, the Panthers are left with Raheem Blackshear as the only running back on the 53-man roster to face the Bucs, tied with Atlanta for the NFC South lead. They also have Mike Boone and Emani Bailey on the practice squad.
