South Africa wins toss and bat first in second Test against Pakistan – Sport

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to bat first in Friday’s second and final Test against Pakistan at blustery Newlands as the home team bids to win the series 2-0.

“It’s hot and we expect the wicket to fall apart. We want to end (the series) with a good result,” Bavuma said.

Pakistan captain Shan Masood said his team was happy to bowl first.

“A little less grass than usual (on the wicket), but we still would have had a bowl,” he said. “Both teams got what they wanted.”

South Africa handed red-hot 18-year-old fast bowler Kwena Maphaka a debut as one of three changes to their side following their thrilling two-wicket win in the first Test in Pretoria.

He will be the youngest player in the country’s Test history, replacing former spinner Paul Adams.

Opening batsman Tony de Zorzi is out with a left hamstring strain and will be replaced by all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who will bat at number three while Ryan Rickelton moves to the opening position.

Spinner Keshav Maharaj has recovered from injury and replaced seamer Corbin Bosch.

Pakistan has made one change on its side with seamer Mir Hamza replacing Naseem Shah.

South Africa have already secured their place in the final of the World Test Championship in June and while they await their opponents at Lords, this is scheduled to be their final five-day game before the main game.
