South Alabama trolls Alabama after loss in ReliaQuest Bowl

Alabama lost 19-13 to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Tuesday, and one in-state program was happy about it – the South Alabama Jaguars.

The Crimson Tide had three turnovers, all by quarterback Jalen Milroe, with two fumbles and an interception in the first quarter. The Wolverines scored after every turnover and took a 16-0 lead.

Alabama cut the deficit to one possession at the end of the first half. But the Crimson Tide remained scoreless in the second half until 4:38 remained in the game, allowing Michigan to win its third straight bowl game.

According to ESPN Research, the Crimson Tide finished 9-4 this season, their most losses since 2007, when they suffered six losses in Nick Saban’s first season as head coach. The loss also sparked a troll from the Jaguars.

South Alabama defeated Western Michigan 30-23 in the IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl on December 14th. The Jaguars bragged about their victory and mocked the Crimson Tide’s season-ending loss by announcing a fictional newspaper graphic with the headline: “Just Team In.” Alabama will win a bowl game this season.

Of Alabama’s eight Division I programs, only three – Alabama, South Alabama and Jacksonville State – participated in a bowl game this season. Jacksonville State lost 30-27 to Ohio in the Cure Bowl.

South Alabama defeated Western Michigan with 271 passing yards and two touchdowns from quarterback Bishop Davenport. It was South Alabama’s second consecutive bowl victory and first two in its history.

The Crimson Tide will not face the Jaguars next season.
