South Carolina’s Shane Beamer separated from the opposing coach in the Citrus Bowl after being taunted following an injury

Opposing head coaches had to be separated after taunts broke out over a player’s injury in Tuesday’s Citrus Bowl.

Illinois defensive lineman Jaheim Clarke was injured in a game and was cared for by trainers and his head coach Bret Bielema.

Bielema was obviously not happy and provoked South Carolina with a substitution signal.

Shane Beamer wasn’t happy with Bret Bielema’s mockery after a player’s injury.

It’s unclear who exactly Bielema made the gesture toward, but Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer lost his temper almost immediately and had a lot to say to his opponent.

Beamer had to be restrained by his colleagues as well as some referees and even some of his own players.

The entire game was inconsistent, with several taunting calls throughout the contest. Bielema dismissed the incident in his post-match interview, simply calling it “a football match”.

The two briefly shook hands and hugged each other after Illinois won 21-17.

The incident seemed to fire up the Gamecocks a bit, as they scored a touchdown just five plays after Beamer was separated from Bielema to take a 17-14 lead early in the fourth.

However, the Illini responded with a 12-play drive of their own, going 75 yards down the field and into the end zone to retake the lead at 21-17 midway through the quarter.

The Gamecocks reached the 10-yard line on their ensuing drive but were unable to score and the Fighting Illini took a knee before game time.
