Sports columnist claims ‘cisgender women’ are ‘real threat’ in SJSU trans controversy

The San Jose State University women’s volleyball team is in the Mountain West final after their semifinal opponent Boise State lost its semifinal game.

It was the third time the Lady Broncos lost to the Spartans this season, having also lost their two regular season games.

The losses came because of SJSU’s transgender nominee Blaire Fleming, who has become one of the conference’s best players.

Opponents of transgender athletes in biological girls sports have cited unfair advantages for these athletes and these teams. However, a USA Today columnist called those who refuse to play trans athletes the “real threat.”

“For all the clamor about transgender athletes, it is the cisgender women who are enforcing the losses, depriving their fellow athletes of the opportunity to play and causing losses to their teams,” Nancy Armor posted in a column headlined “Opinion: Ruling in “San Jose State Volleyball Case Exposes Farce of Transgender Hysteria.”

“It is these women, not the San Jose State player, who pose the real threat.”

Even though her X account is private, Armor still received a lot of criticism for her online presence.

“Is your brain really that broken,” Clay Travis posted.

“Women standing up for WOMEN is not hysteria @USATODAY, it’s brave and about time,” another user wrote.

Another added: “Nancy Armor is misogynistic and hates women. I’m proud of my Alma Meter (sic) for not backing down even if her season ended like this. All women in the Boise State program should have their heads held high. I hope my daughter grows up and can have your courage.”

Boise State, Wyoming, Utah State and Nevada were among the conference teams that canceled games against the Spartans due to Fleming’s presence on the team.

They were aware that the loss would result in a loss of their record, which ultimately helped SJSU secure its high seed.

Earlier this week, federal judge Kato Crews in Colorado, appointed by President Biden in January, denied a request for a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit filed by college volleyball players against the conference seeking to bar Fleming from playing in the tournament and her forfeit losses were repealed.

A dozen women filed a joint lawsuit against Mountain West and its commissioner, alleging violations of Title IX and their First Amendment rights. The women include SJSU co-volleyball captain Brooke Slusser and two former Spartans, as well as athletes from other Mountain West schools.
