Spring-like weather continues as rain returns to metro Detroit

Metro Detroit gets a taste of spring in late December.

This spring-like weather includes both above-average temperatures and rain. After Saturday’s high of 58 degrees – several degrees shy of the record high of 64 degrees – at Detroit Metro Airport, temperatures will drop to as low as 40 degrees overnight. Lows will range from the upper 30s in the Thumb to the lower 40s in Metro Detroit.

The clouds will increase and later, in isolated cases, light, patchy fog will form. From the south there will be widespread rain from 3 a.m

Sunday

Sunday starts and ends rainy and windy. Along with a possible rumble of thunder, the rain will cause puddles to form on roadways and sidewalks. The maximum temperatures are between 45 and 50 degrees. Expect milder temperatures near Detroit and lower temperatures along and north of the I-69 corridor. Winds will be northeast at 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph.

The rain and wind will continue into Sunday night, with rainfall totals remaining around an inch throughout the day. There is a chance of wet snow mixing in at times. Lows will be in the low to mid 30s. The wind is blowing from the northwest and west with a speed of around 24 km/h and gusts of up to 40 km/h.

A Storm Watch goes into effect for southern Lake Huron on Sunday at 10 p.m. and lasts through Monday evening.

Monday

Monday morning will be mostly cloudy, with a few showers and showers. Otherwise the clouds will decrease as the day progresses. Highs will be in the mid 40s. Lows will be in the lower 30s.

Tuesday

It can rain on Tuesday or New Year’s Eve, with highs around 40 degrees. Wet weather remains for evening celebrations, with the possibility of rain and snow showers. Lows will be in the lower 30s around freezing.

It will be rainy in New York with evening temperatures topping 40 degrees as spectators wait for the Times Square Ball Drop.

Wednesday

Wednesday or New Year’s Day will be mostly cloudy with a chance for a few snow showers in southeast Michigan. Highs will be in the mid 30s. With cloudy skies, nighttime temperatures will drop to the low to mid 20s.

Thursday and Friday

Thursday and Friday will be mostly cloudy with a chance for a few lake effect snow showers. Highs will be around 30 degrees on Thursday and mid to upper 20s on Friday.
