Spurs’ late surge fails against the Timberwolves

The San Antonio Spurs battled against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night but came up just short, losing 112-110.

The game didn’t go entirely smoothly as there was an hour-long delay due to a field issue at Target Center. But once it started, it became a run game.

The Spurs fired up the game and took a solid 33-25 lead after the first quarter. Then the second quarter came and things went wrong. San Antonio managed just 12 points — one of its lowest-scoring quarters of the season — while Minnesota scored 32 points. This came just days after a tough 11-point quarter against the Nets.

Despite the setback, the Spurs stormed back with 37 points in the third quarter and outscored the Timberwolves by 12 points. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep the momentum going in the final frame and Minnesota held on for the win.

Victor Wembanyama once again showed why he is such a special talent by leading the Spurs with 34 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks.

Devin Vassell also had a strong night, scoring 22 points on 8-for-14 shooting.

Harrison Barnes, who was on fire, also shot 8-for-9 from the field, including 3-for-4 from distance, and grabbed five rebounds.

This loss drops the Spurs to a .500 record of 16-16, a season full of ups and downs.

They will look to get back on track at home against the Clippers on Tuesday, December 31st.
